The best thing I did to prepare for the birth of my son was hire Emily. My husband and I just moved to Colorado and she was recommended to me by a friend. We don’t have many friends or family in the area and with this being my first I thought the extra support would be helpful. She ended up being very helpful and so much more than that. She is so knowledgable and passionate about birth and gave me so much more information than I realized I needed to know. She gave me options and suggestions that would help me build my own birth plan.

When I went into labor early, Emily remained in constant contact, checking in on and supporting my husband and I as we dealt with our induction surprise. She came later the next afternoon after I was induced that morning, even after having been with a client who was induced the night before.  She stayed with my husband and I, supporting us both through the process.  We had our baby and she was able to help me with latching, breastfeeding and feeling more comfortable with all the hospital procedures required of my son and me.  She constantly checked in with us throughout the labor to make sure we were okay or if we needed anything.

Emily has also helped me so much post birth – more than I can ever thank her.  I did not have a lot of help after birth  and had moments of fear and exhaustion and when Emily visited me she put me at ease and helped me know what I was feeling was normal. I felt so much better after her visits.  I would have been lost after birth without her. She took care of my emotional needs as a new mom. She also wrote a sweet letter to our baby boy about the day of his birth that we will treasure forever.

Hiring a doula was the best choice I made and I know my confidence and mental state would be much different had Emily not been a part of our birth plan. We will hire her again and we will definitely recommend her to any and all pregnant friends.
